Leaks in Pool Pipes can happen for many reasons including: Freeze Damage, Old age, joint deterioration (especially black poly pipe) settlement, termite holes on flex PVC piping Interior Pool Leaks caused by: Liner holes caused by homeowner brushing, old age, improper chemical usage or by termites, hairline cracks in gunite pools, light niche leaks especially at the light conduit, Leaks at the skimmer or returns where they enter the pool or at the gaskets where they enter the pool.
Pipe Leaks underground leaks in almost all cases can be pinpointed within a foot or two & can be repaired - In a lot of cases by precisely locating the leak your pool will not have to be re-piped. Some obvious signs of underground leaks (besides water loss in the pool) include sinking patio bricks, cement slab cracking or soil soggy or sinking. In some cases you might want to re-plumb your pool line. For example say you have isolated your leak to one of your lines, that line is only a short distance & it is very old (say 20 years), we would probably encourage you just to put in a new line. If on the other hand the lines are a great distance from the pool, & say there is rather extensive or fancy stone work it might be preferable to attempt to pinpoint the leak. If any doubt you can call us for advice / free estimate. We don't repair underground leaks (we do guarantee to pinpoint them though) or do re-piping.
Interior leaks (Pool Liners, Gunite & Fiberglass Pools) Liner Leakscan be caused for many reasons. Whether it is the homeowner causing leaks in the liner by agressively brushing the pool or termites eating holes through the liner, someone should perform a check to determine the cause. Especially if there is insect damage, you cannot expect the insects to stop causing damage if a new liner is installed. The area around the pool should be treated with a big attempt to eliminate the insects before a liner change. In almost all cases we can patch a pool & reduce the leakage to at least get you to the end of the season.
Light Leaks especially at the conduit can occur in Liner, Gunite & Fiberglass Pools & can typically be repaired with silicone &/or two part epoxy.
For Gunite & Fiberglass Pools there can be cracks in the structure that leak. In many causes most if not all of the leaks can be stopped for at least the season with 2 part epoxy / pool putty with water in the pool. For gunite pools especially there could be leaks at the connection of the skimmer to the pool & in far less cases where the return lines come into the pool. For large cracks the pool should probably be drained for the repair.
